Newspaper clipping – iol online – 4 July 2010 Green light for exams, says Grant The Western Cape is ready for the matric exams, Education MEC Donald Grant said on Sunday. He said additional resources to help pupils had been provided since January and targets set for each school in the province, with detailed support plans for schools with historically low pass rates. The programmes and interventions would continue until the exams started. Grant said 46 888 candidates had registered for the exams in the province and 3 800 markers would be appointed. The markers would each have a minimum of two years experience in teaching the subject concerned at Grade 12 level and would have a recognized, three-year post Senior Certificate qualification. Nominations for invigilators had also been concluded and 2 382 invigilators would be appointed. The matric exams start on October 13 and end on December 3. Marking starts on December 9. Mark capturing was expected to be completed by December 22, with the final results expected on January 6 next year. - Sapa |
