Unions commended for wage agreement

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on Wednesday lauded labour unions for signing the 2009/2010 wage agreement.

The agreement binds workers and the education department to a general salary adjustment, implemented on a sliding scale, of between 13 and 10 for the current financial year, backdated to July 1, 2009.
“By signing this agreement, the unions have shown their faith in the department’s commitment to avoid labour disputes. We can now all focus on our core business of ensuring quality basic education in our schools,” Motshekga said in a statement.
